Call times on the day of the Winter Concert

These are the call times for the day of the concert, Sunday, December 12:
Mozart Players - 1:30 on the stage
Amadeus Players - 1:30 on the stage
Philharmonia - 1:45 in a rehearsal room behind the stage
Youth Symphony - 2:00 in a rehearsal room behind the stage

Winter Concert tickets

Tickets for the Winter Concert will be available at rehearsals on Nov. 29, Dec. 6, and Dec. 11.
Tickets also available at the door.
$10 adults, $5 students and seniors

The Dress Rehearsal schedule on Saturday, December 11

Smith Auditorium at Willamette University (map).
Regular clothes (not concert clothes).
Please arrive about 10 minutes early so the rehearsal can start on time.

We have a new string group!

Announcing a new group: The Mozart Players. This is a non-audition group for string players who are playing at level 11/2 to 2 (or half way into Suzuki Book 2) and will be directed by Deborah Ward. The group will meet from 5:15-6:15 pm on the same rehearsal nights as our other three groups (except starting one week later each semester). More information

Announcing guest soloist with the Youth Symphony

Salem Youth Symphony is very excited to announce that Fred Korman, Principal Oboist of the Oregon Symphony from 1978 to 2006, will be our soloist on the December 12th
Concert. Currently on the faculty of Oregon State University and principal oboist of the OSU-Corvallis Symphony, Mr. Korman maintains an active career as a player, teacher and consultant on performance anxiety. He will be performing the Marcello Oboe Concerto with us. Fred Korman's website

Visit us July 7 at the "First Wednesday" celebration in downtown Salem

The July 7 First Wednesday celebration will include live music at 8 locations in downtown Salem between 5 and 8 pm. Several members of the Salem Youth Symphony groups will perform. Summer Strings and other music camps

Our students often participate in the Salem-Keizer school district's "Summer Strings" (for elementary and middle school students) or in other summer music camps. Several summer music camps are listed- not as an endorsement, but as a place to start your research.

Musical Enchantment - THANK YOU!

Musical Enchantment this past weekend netted over $7300 (after expenses)! The money raised at this fundraiser will be used to support our three orchestras and to help students who need tuition assistance in order to participate. Thank you to the many, many people who helped make Musical Enchantment a huge success!

Please donate an item for your orchestra's raffle basket

As in past years, each of our three orchestras will assemble a basket of gifts to be raffled off at Musical Enchantment. We ask each family to please donate one item (you can donate more than one!) to your orchestra's raffle basket. The basket themes this year are:

Philharmonia-- "Home and Garden" theme
Youth Symphony-- "Romance" theme (ideas)
We'll collect items at the February 22 and the March 1 rehearsals.

Youth Symphony group resumes rehearsals on Jan. 4

The Youth Symphony group will resume rehearsals on Monday, January 4, 2010.

The rehearsals on Jan. 4, 11 and 25 will be at North Salem High School (not at Parrish Middle School). We have no rehearsal on January 18 in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Amadeus and Philharmonia will resume rehearsals on Monday, January 25, 2010.
