Concert clothes (from the Handbook)

Amadeus
Girls: White top with 3/4 length or longer sleeves. Black pants or skirt that covers the knees when seated. Black closed-toe shoes.
Boys: White long sleeve, button-down shirt. Black bow tie. Black pants. Black closed-toe shoes, black socks.

Philharmonia & Youth Symphony
Girls: Head to toe black outfit. No sleeveless. If wearing a skirt or dress, it should cover the knees when seated. Black closed-toe shoes.
Boys: White long sleeve, button-down shirt. Black bow tie. Black pants. Black closed-toe shoes, black socks. Black vest or jacket optional.

Tickets are now available at rehearsals.
Adults $10; students and seniors $5.
Tickets will also be available at the concert.

Youth Symphony schedule for Monday, November 28

6:30-8:00 pm Brass Choir/percussion meet in Band Hall at Parrish.
Unless needed in the movements below, brass and percussion are released at 8:00 pm. Percussion should report to North and rehearse with Philharmonia.
Percussion- Rehearse with Philharmonia after 7:30 PM, unless you are needed for the particular movement of the Nutcracker.

6:30-7:30 pm Trumpet Concerto (Strings, Oboes, Bassoons, Continuo) with Mr. Fred Sautter. Parrish Stage.

7:30 – 7:45 pm
Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy (add Flutes 1, 2 and Piccolo, Clarinets 1 and 2, Bass Clarinet)
French Horns will stay with Brass Choir Rehearsal

7:45-8:15 pm
Dance of the Merlitons (Add Horns 1 and 2 from the Brass Choir rehearsal)
Chinese Dance (with 2nd Horn, Glockenspiel)
Arabian Dance (with tambourine)

8:15-8:30 pm
Overture Miniature (with Horns 1 and 2, triangle)

Other Concerto Competitions in the community

1.) The Salem Chamber Orchestra holds the Connie Fritz Memorial Concerto Competition.
The recording and entry form are due by December 9, 2011.

2.) The Oregon Symphony Association in Salem holds the Vernon L. Wiscarson Young Musicians' Competition (ignore last year's dates).
Letter about the Wiscarson competition
The recording and application are due by February 3, 2012.

To apply, please print and return the application for the Concerto Competition to Mr. Garrett by Saturday, December 10 at the dress rehearsal.

The Concerto Competition is a prestigious instrumental music competition featuring some of our most talented youth currently playing in the Youth Symphony group. The SYSA sponsors this competition to encourage serious young musicians to hone their performance skills by participating in a juried competition. For the competition, each participant will perform a ten minute section of a concerto. The winner of the competition earns a $500 cash prize and will be the featured soloist at the Salem Youth Symphony’s Spring Concert, Sunday, May 6, 2012.

String seating test:
The test will be done in Choir room (Violins and Violas) and Band Room (Cellos and Basses). Musicians will be given a Letter number (A, B, C, D etc). The seating test is done with the judges behind a screen. The seating will be placed on our website within 24 hours.

Schedule for tonight's rehearsal:
Plan on arriving about 10 minutes ahead of your particular movement. I will have a sign up designating a warm up room that you can go to before coming into the rehearsal. Please enter quietly so as not to disturb the rehearsal already in progress.

6:30-7:15 pm Trumpet Concerto (Strings, Oboes, Bassoons and Continuo) NO WOODWINDS OR BRASS OTHER THAN THOSE LISTED

7:15-7:30 pm Nutcracker Suite: Arabian Dance (Strings, All Woodwinds including Bass Clarinet (English Horn) and Tambourine) NO BRASS

7:30-7:45 pm Chinese Dance (Strings, All Woodwinds including Bass Clarinet and 2nd French Horn) No Brass except for the 2nd Horn.

7:45-8:00 pm Dance of the Merlitons (Strings, All Woodwinds and Brass, Timpani and Cymbals)

8:00-8:15 pm March (Strings, All winds and Suspended Cymbal) No Bass Clarinet, English Horn, Harp

8:15-8:30 pm Waltz of the Flowers (Strings, Harp, All Winds, Triangle and Timpani) No Bass Clarinet, English Horn


Percussion: please plan on attending the Philharmonia rehearsal tomorrow evening unless you have a part to play at a specific time. Allow a few minutes travel time between North and Parrish.

**BE AWARE: Today, November 1, North Salem High School will host All-City Choir auditions from 4:00 - 7:00 pm.
The parking lot and school halls will be more crowded than usual.
Parents, please allow extra time and care when dropping off your child.

6:30 – 7:30 PM Strings, Oboes, Bassoon and Harpsichord
Meet on stage with our trumpet soloist, Mr. Fred Sautter.
(The 7:30 estimate is flexible and could go longer)

6:30-8:00 PM Brass and percussion will meet with Mr. Hodges to rehearse the Brass Choir numbers in the band room.
8:00-8:30 PM Brass and percussion will join the strings and rest of the woodwinds for the Trepak and Waltz of the Flowers.
Our harpist is scheduled to join us for the Waltz.

If you are not involved in either the Brass Choir or the trumpet concerto,
(Both clarinets, Bass Clarinet, Flutes, Piccolo) plan on arriving at 7:30 PM
and be ready to join us when we finish with the trumpet concerto.
Mr. Garrett will leave the Parrish Choir room open so that you can warm up there until your call.
